The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the results for the 2024 second series of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates.
According to a statement by WAEC’s Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, 43,923 candidates—representing 67.55% of those who sat for the exam—achieved credit and above in at least five subjects.
Among them, 34,878 candidates (53.64%) earned five credits, including English Language and Mathematics. This mark a 9.35% improvement from previous years, compared to the 42.16% and 44.29% recorded in 2022 and 2023, respectively.
The exam was conducted across 5,067 centers nationwide, with 65,023 candidates participating. Gender distribution was nearly equal, with 31,504 males and 33,519 females, the latter making up 51.55% of candidates.
WAEC confirmed that 95.90% of the results have been fully processed and released, while 4.10% remained pending due to errors in candidates’ submissions.
Additionally, 2,577 candidates (3.96%) had their results withheld due to alleged examination malpractice. Those affected can appeal through the WAEC Notice of Examination Malpractice Portal.
