The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has revoked the licences of 574 secondary schools across Nigeria for engaging in various forms of examination malpractice.
Announcing the development on Thursday, the Head of the Nigeria National Office of WAEC, Dr. Amos Dangut, said the affected schools have been delisted and will not be allowed to conduct the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), scheduled to begin on Thursday, April 24, 2025.
Dr. Dangut disclosed that the list of the sanctioned schools has been forwarded to the Federal Government and other relevant education stakeholders for further action.
“This year, we have shared with them a total of 574 schools that have had their recognition withdrawn. The same standard applies to all examining bodies,” he said.
“As far as WAEC is concerned, we will not conduct examinations in those schools. They are no longer recognized as examination centres due to their involvement in malpractice.”
The council reiterated its commitment to upholding the integrity of the examination process and warned that it would continue to apply strict sanctions on individuals or institutions found wanting.
