Archbishop Prof. Leonard Kawas, General Overseer of World Harvest Ministries, has called on Christians to live humbly and purposefully in line with biblical teachings, stressed that humanity’s ultimate goal is to please God.
Delivering a sermon on Sunday in Abuja, Archbishop Kawas reminded believers that life only finds meaning when it aligns with God’s will.
“We are created to give God pleasure, and if you refuse, God will give you pressure,” he declared, drawing from the story of King Nebuchadnezzar, who was humbled until he acknowledged the supremacy of the God of Israel.
Referencing Revelation 4:11, he said, “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.”
He urged Christians to stop living self-centered lives and instead pursue the things that please God. Quoting Psalm 149:4, he explained that humility is not a sign of weakness but a spiritual strength that attracts divine favour.
Citing Psalm 149:5–9 and 2 Chronicles 7:14, Archbishop Kawas outlined four key principles for pleasing God humility, prayer, seeking His face, and repentance.
“If God’s people will humble themselves, pray, seek His face, and turn from wickedness, He will heal their land,” he said.
He also warned against hypocrisy and double living, urged believers to surrender their dreams and struggles to God instead of blaming others. Quoting Jeremiah 5:26, he cautioned against the spread of wickedness and urged spiritual vigilance.
Praying from 1 Samuel 19:9–10, Archbishop Kawas declared that no member of his congregation would fall prey to evil or be used for political manipulation.
He concluded with a sobering reminder; “After God has created you, if you cannot give Him pleasure, your creation is wasted.”
The service also featured the joyful dedication of Princess Fiona Kawas and Janice Margaret Liga, marking a celebratory close to the solemn message.
