Niger State Government has acquired about 11,000 hectares of land for the development of Suleja Smart City.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ahmed Ibrahim Matane disclosed this while briefing Board of Directors of the Suleja Smart City Company.
Ahmed Matane explained that the development of Suleja Smart City has huge potential for transforming and modernizing the economy of the State.
The SSG said that the main components of the Smart City include advanced meter in infrastructure, smart street lights, small buildings and open data.
Others are assembly/manufacturing hub for renewable energy systems and components and establishment of Niger State Institute of Technology, Ahmed Matane added.
He further enumerated the benefit of Suleja Smart City to include establishment of solar farms in each of the 25 local government areas of the State to provide Off-grid power supply for residential, commercial and industrial use, retrofitting of public and cultural buildings in Minna, Suleja, Bida and Kontagora with energy efficient building materials, components and IoTs to make them smart, cost-effective and resilient.
The SSG stated that the term of reference for the Suleja Smart City Company will enable the company to attract investors, venture capital, foreign direct investment and cutting-edge smart city technology for the development of the City.
Ahmed Matane said the Company is also expected to attract grants and concessional finding in order to implement climate oriented Smart Energy and Renewable Energy projects.
