The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL), High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has described the collaboration between his security outfit and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) as strategic, timely, and patriotic, noting that the partnership is critical to the ongoing fight against oil theft and pipeline vandalism in the country.
Speaking on Friday while receiving the national, zonal, and state leadership of the NUJ at his country home in Oporoza, headquarters of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Delta State, Tompolo lauded the Nigerian media for their pivotal role in promoting the activities and successes of Tantita Security Services.
According to the revered Ijaw leader, media reportage has been instrumental in elevating Tantita to global recognition as a first-rate private security outfit.
“All over the world, people see what we’re doing because of your work. What we came to commission the NUJ Warri Correspondents’ Chapel Secretariat is small compared to what the media has done for us,” Tompolo said.
He added, “We want to sincerely thank the immediate past NUJ president and the incumbent for giving us this opportunity to serve our country. But we must work harder. We can only achieve our goals if we work together. We must commit everything to ensure Nigerian waterways are regarded as the most secure. It is a collective task.”
Earlier in his remarks, the National President of the NUJ, Comrade Alhassan Yahya, said the union’s leadership visited Tompolo to appreciate his support, particularly the construction of a state-of-the-art Press Centre for the Warri Correspondents’ Chapel described as the first of its kind in the country.
Yahya also applauded Tompolo’s generous support for the 2024 NUJ Delegates Conference held in Owerri, Imo State, where he (Yahya) emerged as national president of the union.
He commended Tompolo’s philanthropy and patriotism, describing him as Ibe-Ebidouwei of the Ijaw Nation whose contributions have impacted journalism and humanity at large.
“Your unwavering support eased the burden of our union during the Owerri conference and left a mark that will not be forgotten,” Yahya stated.
He reaffirmed the NUJ’s commitment to the unity and progress of Nigeria, assuring that the union will continue to partner with Tantita Security Services to promote national security objectives.
The NUJ president was accompanied by the immediate past president, Chief Chris Isiguzo; Deputy National President, Asiwaju Sola Adebayo; Dr. Bimbo Oyetunde, Vice President Zone F; and Secretary of Zone F, Comrade Okpakamabo Dokubo.
Others on the delegation included Chairman and Secretary of NUJ Delta State Council, Comrades Churchill Oyowe and Victor Sorokwu; Chairperson and Vice Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Delta Chapter, Comrades Sonia Unobunjo and Ruth Omigie, among others.
