Wike’s Beatification in FCT, by Abubakar Yusuf

The on going and sustained beatification of public space and utilities by the FCT administration under the leadership of the Minister of Federal Capital Territory FCT in the last one year could’ve regarded as monumental and the best thing that has happened to the seat of government, but abandoned by the previous handlers.

The hitherto dilapidated state of public structures including the unkept roads corridors both within the city centre and the ones linking the satellite towns have undergone daily cleaning and rehabilitation in the last one year of the present administration.

It will be an irony on the part of the whole system that was rumoured to be returning to the national coffers unspent yearly budget funds , had reverted to been excluded from the Treasury Single Account (TSA) to enable it meet it’s financial obligations.

The current beatification saw the least infrastructure in the nation’s city which included concrete kebs abandoned without commensurate attention for many years and decades, now giving a face lift to the largest nation’s in Africa wearing a new look.

Nyesom Wike on assumption of duty in the FCT expressed disappointment on the state of public utilities in the FCT and the six area councils that turned public properties into private hands and in some instances hoodlums.

He immediately set in motion machineries to recover and secured public utilities by immediately erecting perimeter fencing in many strategic areas around the city centre and the area councils.

The FCT administration rejigged the mandate of Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) among other organs of government under it’s agencies to ensure the issue of clean environment was no longer compromised and abandoned.

Apart from securing the public utilities, Wike immediately ensured the structures are put to immediate use towards generating and improving revenue generation for the FCT.

The flyovers existing in the nation’s city that was hitherto occupied by hoodlums and under the bridges that harbored criminals across the FCT, threatening the lives of innocent Nigerians going about their legitimate and lawful activities, have been sanitized and renewed through paintings and remodeling.

With Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and renewed determination of FCT administration under Nyesom Wike, the activities of solar pole lights thieves, replacement of stolen ones and repairs of abandoned street lights across the nations city was effected.

The entrance into the FCT from the Airport end, Kubuwa interchange and Nyanya axis linking the city centre from Kogi , Nassarawa, Niger, and Kaduna States is now wearing a new look with better environment and sanitation.

This was corroborated with the security of lives and properties through provision of equipment and gadgets to assist the Police and security agencies including motorbikes to address kidnappings, banditry and herders, farmers clashes across the FCT.

For Wike’s FCT beatification reminds us of the Catholic beatification of late Reverend Father Iwene Tansi in the east some few years ago .

The word “beatification” was used interchangeably with the success story of the late Catholic pontiff now refered to after so many decades and giant strides of Nzenwo Nyesom Wike in the FCT.
