Determined to ensure that all eligible voters in Nigeria who have not registered with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the on-going voters’ registration exercise do so and collect their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs), The Arise O Nigeria directorate of women affairs is set to embark on an aggressive awareness/sensitization campaign across the 774 LGAs across the Federation.
Arise O Nigeria, A United Nations women Endorsed NGO registered in Nigeria, established for empowerment and advocacy of vulnerable youths, women (widows) and also promoting peace and good governance in Nigeria is displaying her commitment to ensure free and fair election come 2019 general elections.
The President of the NGO, Hon. Amb. Jonathan Daniel disclosed to journalists that the, “Register to vote sensitization campaign” was to ensure that eligible voters in each state register and collect their PVCs to enable them exercise their civic responsibilities during the 2019 general elections.
According to him: “The awareness campaign is targeted at every nook and cranny of various metropolis and various grassroots.
in his word, He encouraged Nigerians saying “Go and register for your PVC and vote for good leadership, don’t sell your vote or your PVC. Your PVC is your right to vote and be voted for. Don’t be deceived that your vote does not count, with your PVC, we can achieve good leadership in Nigeria”. “Your PVC is not only for election purpose but a means to identify that you are a true born Nigerian. The reason we are lacking behind in terms of development is because we have looked down on voters’ registration, which is our right to choose the right candidate to govern us.”
Chief Mrs Stella Kosemani Kolawole, the immediate past Head of Service, Ondo State, and Matron of Arise O Nigeria also advised that the sensitization should go beyond voter’s registration as it should also cover women’s active participation in the voting exercises. She stressed that there are more women voters than men, so women should go out to elect credible women as more women should be encouraged & supported to vie for elective posts at all levels; The “Pull Her Down” syndrome common among women should also be eradicated.
Arise O Nigeria however appealed to Nigerians who have not registered with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the on-going voters’ registration exercise do so and collect their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) before it expires.
“We urge credible organizations and individuals for financial and logistic support, regretting that most of the dwellers are not aware of the on-going voters’ registration exercise, hence the prompt intervention. Over 2500 Civil Societies, NGO, including The Association of Nigerian Models & over 150 Past / Present Beauty Queens vows to join the Arise O Nigeria PVC Registration Sensitization Campaign..
