The Al Qanitaat Sisterhood has joined millions of women across the world in commemorating World Hijab Day 2026, describing the Hijab as a symbol of faith, dignity, and identity deeply rooted in Islamic teachings.
In a press statement dated January 30, 2026, and signed by its Amira, Mrs. Rashida Ibrahim, the organisation highlighted the spiritual and moral significance of the Hijab, noting that it goes beyond being a piece of clothing to represent devotion and obedience to Allah.
According to the statement, the Hijab remains a timeless expression of modesty in a rapidly changing world. Citing verses from the Holy Qur’an, including Surah Al-Ahzab (33:59) and Surah An-Nur (24:31), the group explained that the Hijab serves as an identity marker and a means of promoting respect for women based on character and intellect rather than appearance.
Mrs. Ibrahim emphasised that true Hijab also involves moral conduct, humility, and good character, describing modesty (Haya) as both physical and spiritual. She referenced the Prophet Muhammad’s (SAW) teaching that “Modesty brings nothing but good,” stressing the importance of what she termed “Hijab of the heart,” which includes kind speech, respectful behaviour, and disciplined conduct.
The organisation also used the occasion to appeal to government authorities at state and federal levels to remove restrictions on the use of Hijab in public institutions. It called for policies that permit uniform-compliant Hijabs in sectors such as healthcare, security services, and public administration.
“There are still areas where Muslim women are forced to choose between their faith and their careers,” the statement noted, urging leaders to ensure that professional competence is judged by skill and performance rather than appearance.
Addressing Muslim women, Mrs. Ibrahim encouraged those who wear the Hijab to do so with confidence and pride, describing it as an act of worship and a symbol of commitment to Islamic values. She also offered words of support to women who are still struggling with the practice, urging them to take gradual steps in their spiritual journey.
The Al Qanitaat Sisterhood further invited people of all faiths to look beyond stereotypes and understand the Hijab as a celebration of womanhood, dignity, and devotion to God.“As we mark World Hijab Day, we invite everyone to see the Hijab for what it truly represents faith, modesty, and identity,” the statement concluded.
World Hijab Day is observed annually on February 1 to promote awareness, understanding, and respect for Muslim women who choose to wear the Hijab.
