A high-powered delegation from the World Scout Bureau, led by Acting Secretary General, arrived in Nigeria today for a four-day visit aimed at strengthening ties with The Scout Association of Nigeria (TSAN) and advancing youth development initiatives across the country.
One of the key events during the visit is the conferral of the title Grand Patron of the Scout of Nigeria on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This honor recognizes his leadership and the Federal Government’s efforts in promoting youth empowerment and development.
The delegation’s agenda included discussions with TSAN leadership to review progress, address challenges, and explore new growth opportunities. The focus will be on aligning TSAN’s goals with global initiatives such as the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the African Union’s Vision 2063, and Nigeria’s national youth development programs.
In addition to engagements with TSAN, the delegation will meet with various stakeholders, including government officials, Scout leaders, and local partners, to bolster collaboration and ensure TSAN’s sustained impact as a public utility organization dedicated to youth development.
Founded in 1907 by Lord Baden-Powell, the World Scout Movement is the largest educational youth organization globally, with over 57 million members in 176 National Scout Organizations. The World Scout Bureau functions as its international secretariat, promoting the vision of empowering young people to positively impact their communities.
This visit underscored Nigeria’s significance in the global scouting community and reaffirms the Scout Movement’s commitment to nurturing responsible and skilled young citizens. It marks a significant milestone in fostering a culture of service and leadership among Nigerian youth, ensuring the enduring legacy of scouting values.
