The Nigerian Army’s 8 Division and Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) have deepened operational collaboration with the Air Warfare and Doctrine Centre (AWDC) as part of renewed efforts to combat terrorism and banditry in the North-West.
The partnership was reinforced during a courtesy visit by the Commandant of the AWDC, Air Vice Marshal Ibrahim Jibia, to the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division Nigerian Army and Commander, Sector 2 OPFY, Major General Bemgba Paul Koughna.
Speaking during the visit, Major General Koughna commended Air Vice Marshal Jibia for his distinguished service and leadership across various command appointments. He assured the visiting delegation of the 8 Division’s full support and cooperation, stressing that sustained inter-service collaboration remains critical to addressing operational challenges in the region. The GOC further pledged proactive assistance to AWDC initiatives to enhance joint operational effectiveness.
Air Vice Marshal Jibia, in his remarks, congratulated Major General Koughna on his recent appointment and expressed confidence in his ability to positively impact the security situation in the North-West. He noted that the AWDC is responsible for reviewing, developing and updating Nigerian Air Force doctrine and employment concepts, as well as teaching doctrine and enhancing operational competence to promote jointness through integrated exercises.
The AWDC Commandant highlighted the need for greater sensitisation among personnel and the identification of operational gaps, particularly in air-drone integration and the application of doctrine at the frontline. According to him, effective air-ground integration is central to achieving seamless cooperation between air and land forces for optimal air power delivery in joint operations.
The visit ended with the exchange of souvenirs and group photographs, symbolising the strengthened partnership between the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Air Force in the ongoing fight against terrorism and insecurity in the North-West.
