The Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) has recorded sweeping operational successes across the country, neutralised scores of terrorists, arrested more than 20 suspects, and rescued several kidnapped civilians in a series of coordinated operations conducted between March 30 and April 2, 2026.
The operations, carried out under the leadership of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, spanned multiple theatres, targeting terrorist groups, criminal networks, and economic saboteurs.
In the North East, troops of Operation Hadin Kai intensified their offensive against Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists. In Borno State, soldiers ambushed insurgents in Gwoza Local Government Area, forcing them to abandon weapons and ammunition. Troops also rescued civilians abducted from 17 vehicles along the Buratai–Kamuya road after swiftly pursuing the attackers.
Additional operations in Bama and Biu Local Government Areas led to the neutralisation of several terrorists and the interception of their logistics networks. In Adamawa State, troops arrested suspected collaborators, including a double agent who confessed to participating in previous attacks and plotting to target a military barracks. A suspected arms courier was also intercepted in Bauchi with a large cache of ammunition.
In the North West, troops under Operation Fansan Yamma engaged terrorists across Zamfara, Katsina, Kebbi, and Sokoto States. Security forces responded to attacks on commuters, rescued kidnapped victims, and destroyed terrorist hideouts. In Sokoto State, troops rescued some abducted civilians, while in Katsina, several injured victims abandoned by fleeing terrorists were recovered and evacuated for medical treatment.
Operations in the North Central zone also yielded significant gains. Under Operations Savannah Shield and Enduring Peace, troops foiled kidnapping attempts in Kwara State and arrested suspects linked to the killing of a community leader in Plateau State. In Barkin Ladi, soldiers rescued a kidnapped woman who was abandoned by fleeing criminals.
In the South-South, Operation Delta Safe focused on curbing economic sabotage. Troops intercepted illegal miners transporting suspected black sand in Akwa Ibom State and uncovered an illegal crude oil refining site in Rivers State, recovering about 10,000 litres of suspected stolen crude oil along with refining equipment.
Meanwhile, in the South East, Operation Udo Ka targeted members of the proscribed IPOB/ESN network. Troops arrested key operatives, including individuals responsible for providing medical support to injured fighters. A high-profile suspect was also apprehended in Ogun State, further weakening the group’s support structure.
Overall, the military said the operations led to the neutralisation of numerous terrorists, the arrest of suspects including collaborators and logistics suppliers, and the rescue of multiple civilians from captivity.
The Chief of Defence Staff commended the troops for their courage and professionalism, urged them to remain vigilant and continue to uphold the highest standards in the discharge of their duties. He also called on Nigerians to support the military with timely and credible intelligence.
The AFN reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives, safeguarding national assets, and ensuring the security and sovereignty of Nigeria.
