Acting Director of Naval Information leads strategic media engagements in Lagos

The Acting Director of Naval Information, Captain Abiodun Abidemi Folorunsho, has led a series of strategic media engagements in Lagos aimed at strengthening collaboration between the Nigerian Navy and key media stakeholders as part of efforts to enhance transparency and effective communication on naval operations.

The engagements, held from February 17 to 19, 2026, formed part of the Navy’s ongoing initiative to deepen relations with the media and promote accurate, timely dissemination of information on maritime security and national defence activities. During the three-day visit, Captain Folorunsho interacted with management and editorial teams of leading broadcast and print media organisations across the state.

Media houses visited included African Independent Television (AIT), Channels Television, TVC News, and Arise News. The Acting Director also met with executives of major newspapers such as Vanguard Newspaper, The Guardian Newspaper, The Nation Newspaper, The Sun Newspaper, and ThisDay Newspaper.

Speaking during the engagements, Captain Folorunsho reaffirmed the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to professionalism, openness, and the prompt dissemination of accurate information concerning its activities. He stressed the importance of responsible and balanced reporting, particularly on maritime security issues, noting that informed public communication plays a critical role in national security.

He further highlighted the Navy’s sustained operational efforts to safeguard Nigeria’s territorial waters, combat maritime crimes, and protect critical national assets, emphasized that stronger collaboration with the media would enhance public awareness of these efforts.

In their respective remarks, media executives commended the Navy’s operational achievements and proactive engagement with stakeholders, assured continued partnership in promoting factual, balanced, and well-contextualized reportage of naval activities.

The Lagos engagements underscored the Nigerian Navy’s broader strategy of strengthening civil-military relations through constructive dialogue and strategic communication with the media.
