President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has felicitated with former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, on the occasion of his 91st birthday, described him as a symbol of unity, peace, and national reconciliation.
In a personally signed congratulatory message issued on Sunday, Akpabio lauded the former Nigerian leader for his steadfast commitment to the peace and unity of the nation, noting that his post-civil war policy of “No Victor, No Vanquished” remained one of the most enduring legacies of national healing.
“On behalf of my family, constituents, the Senate, and the 10th National Assembly, I heartily rejoice with our former Head of State, His Excellency, General Yakubu Gowon, GCFR, on the celebration of his 91st birthday,” Akpabio said. “It is a thing of joy to see him reach this remarkable milestone in life.”
He praised Gowon’s leadership during and after the Nigerian Civil War, describing it as one that continues to shape the country’s history and inspire successive generations.
“Sir, your leadership during and after Nigeria’s civil war continues to shape our history, and your ‘No Victor, No Vanquished’ policy remains a beacon of unity and national healing,” Akpabio said. “Your unwavering commitment to peace, dialogue, and nation-building remains relevant to Nigeria’s progress today.”
The Senate President further hailed Gowon’s devotion to intergenerational engagement and his exemplary statesmanship, noting that “history will continue to be kind to him.”
Akpabio prayed that God would grant the former Head of State many more years of good health, wisdom, and strength in service to humanity and the nation.
