The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, on Saturday commissioned the Kugbo International Bus and Taxi Terminal in Abuja, reaffirming President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to prioritizing public safety and national development through investment in modern infrastructure.
Speaking on behalf of President Tinubu at the well-attended event, Senator Akpabio said the project represented a bold step towards fulfilling the Renewed Hope Agenda, which placed premium importance on revamping Nigeria’s critical public infrastructure.
“President Tinubu has made it clear that no nation can achieve meaningful progress without modernizing and expanding its core public mobility utilities,” Akpabio stated. “This terminal, like the one in Mabushi, is a direct response to the challenges previously faced by commuters in the FCT and signals our administration’s resolve to bring order, safety, and dignity to public transportation.”
He described the terminal as aligning with global best practices in sustainable urban development, highlighting that it supports smart mobility, parking management, compact living, and economic inclusivity.
“These terminals are more than buildings; they are a symbol of a new direction,” Akpabio said. “They transform chaotic and unsafe transit experiences into efficient and secure systems, proving that this government listens, understands, and takes decisive action.”
Senator Akpabio further conveyed President Tinubu’s assurance that the Kugbo and Mabushi terminals are part of a broader strategy to boost connectivity across the FCT, reduce travel time, enhance economic opportunities, and improve the overall quality of life for residents.
“As we commission this terminal today, we are not only unveiling a transportation hub but unlocking new pathways for growth and development,” he added.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by top government officials, stakeholders, and community leaders who commended the Federal Government’s infrastructural strides in the Federal Capital Territory.
