As Anambra State prepare for the 2025 governorship election, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has reassured voters of maximum security and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) before, during, and after the polls.
The Commandant General of the Corps, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, gave the assurance through the Deputy Commandant General in charge of Operations, DCG Philip Ayuba, stated the that officers deployed for election duties have been thoroughly briefed to conduct themselves with professionalism, neutrality, and respect for human rights.
“Our presence at the polling stations is to protect, not to interfere. We are there to create an atmosphere where voters feel safe, confident, and free to exercise their civic rights,” Prof. Audi said.
He noted that the NSCDC’s responsibility extends beyond securing voters to ensuring the safety of vital infrastructure such as electricity, water supply, communication networks, and other utilities essential to the electoral process.
“Our mandate compels us to protect the assets that keep the nation running because the credibility of any election depends not only on the safety of voters but also on the stability of the systems that sustain it,” he added.
Prof. Audi directed officers to maintain vigilance around INEC facilities, government buildings, and other sensitive locations, warning that any compromise or political bias would attract strict disciplinary action.
He further disclosed that the NSCDC would continue working in synergy with the Nigeria Police Force, Armed Forces, and other security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) to ensure a smooth and credible election.
The Corps appealed to voters to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative with security agencies, assuring that their safety, the protection of critical assets, and the integrity of the election remain the NSCDC’s top priorities.
