The Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has strengthened its operational partnership with the Nigerian Navy as part of efforts to enhance maritime security, trade facilitation, and national revenue protection.
The Customs Area Controller (CAC), Apapa Command, Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, paid a courtesy visit on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, to the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Abubakar Abdullahi Mustapha, aimed at deepening inter-agency collaboration in line with the policy thrusts of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.
Speaking during the visit, Oshoba explained that the engagement aligned with the Comptroller-General’s three policy priorities of consolidation, collaboration, and innovation. He noted that upon assuming office, he resolved to consolidate on existing achievements while strengthening the longstanding relationship between the Apapa Command and the Navy.
According to him, modern border management required strong cooperation among security agencies. While Customs is widely known for trade facilitation and revenue generation, he stressed that the Service also performs critical national security functions that demand close coordination with the military.
“Innovation is about doing things differently to achieve better results, and strengthening inter-agency cooperation forms a key part of that approach,” he said.
The CAC commended the Navy for safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial waters, noting that secure maritime routes are essential for vessel movement and port operations. He also solicited sustained naval support along the Apapa port corridor to ensure seamless cargo clearance and efficient trade activities.
Responding, Rear Admiral Mustapha highlighted the importance of synergy among security agencies, stressed that effective port security depends on coordination and collaboration.
“Port security is about inter-agency cooperation. Without security, there is no development,” he said.
The naval commander further praised the Customs Service under Adeniyi’s leadership for blocking revenue leakages and surpassing national revenue targets, adding that improved revenue generation would translate into better infrastructure and strengthened social safety programmes.
He assured the Apapa Command of continued cooperation in securing Nigeria’s maritime domain while supporting national economic growth.
The visit reaffirmed the commitment of both agencies to enhanced collaboration aimed at strengthening maritime security, boosting trade efficiency, and promoting sustainable economic development.
