The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered a swift security response following a deadly bandit attack on Ariko Village near Gurara Dam in Kaduna State.
The attack, which occurred on April 5, 2026, targeted worshippers at ECWA and Catholic Churches, where gunmen reportedly opened fire indiscriminately. The incident left five people dead and about fourteen others abducted, heightening concerns over security in the area.
In response, the IGP directed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Shehu Umar Nadada, to deploy to the state for on-the-ground assessment and coordination of rescue efforts. The move underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to restoring calm and ensuring the safety of affected communities.
Security operations involving the police, the Nigerian Army, and the Department of State Services (DSS) have since yielded results, with seven kidnapped victims successfully rescued. The victims were taken to Katari Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical attention and are reported to be in stable condition.
Efforts are ongoing to secure the release of the remaining abducted persons and to apprehend those behind the attack. The police have called on members of the public to remain vigilant and provide useful information that could aid security agencies in their operations.
