The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has intensified enforcement operations against the dangerous practice of mixed loading in Kaduna State, intercepted several articulated vehicles illegally transporting passengers alongside animals and goods.
The crackdown, carried out by the Kaduna State Sector Command under the leadership of Sector Commander, CC Tijani Iliyasu, followed directives issued by the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, as part of the ongoing Easter Special Patrol across the country.
During the operation, officials apprehended multiple articulated vehicles found conveying over 100 persons in combination with livestock and cargo along major transport corridors in the state. The FRSC described the practice as a serious safety violation capable of turning vehicles into “rolling death traps.”
According to the Corps Marshal, mixed loading significantly increases the risk of fatalities in the event of a crash, as passengers are exposed to dangers such as being crushed by shifting goods or injured by animals. He added that the practice also compromises vehicle stability and braking efficiency, thereby heightening the likelihood of road traffic accidents.
The Corps reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on traffic violations that endanger lives, warning drivers and transport operators to desist from such acts or face arrest and prosecution.
The FRSC further urged motorists and other road users to adopt safe driving practices, particularly during the Easter period, which is typically characterized by increased vehicular movement nationwide.
Reaffirming its commitment to road safety, the Corps stated that it will continue to sustain nationwide enforcement, intelligence-led patrols, and public awareness campaigns aimed at reducing crashes and safeguarding lives on Nigerian highways.
