The Barau I Jibrin Foundation (BIJF) has shortlisted 215 candidates from across the 44 local government areas of Kano State for its 2025/2026 Domestic Postgraduate Scholarship Programme.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by Alhaji Ismail Mudashir, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin.
The shortlisted candidates are scheduled to participate in a screening and interview exercise from April 20 to 21, 2025, at the School of Continuing Education, Bayero University Kano, located at G/Dutse, K/Taya.
The statement recalled that applications for the scholarship programme opened on January 6, 2025, as part of the foundation’s efforts to expand access to quality education and support human capital development in critical areas of science and technology.
Senator Barau, through the foundation, has also sponsored 70 students currently pursuing postgraduate studies in India, under the foreign scholarship component of the initiative.
According to the foundation, the postgraduate programs cover various fields including Artificial Intelligence, Robotics Technology, Cyber Security, Data Science, Information Technology, Software Development, Mineral Exploration, Hydrogeology & Environmental Geology, Oil and Gas Operations, Applied Geophysics, Metallurgical and Material Engineering, Climate Change Management, Mechatronics, and Intelligence Systems.
The foundation also revealed that six prestigious Nigerian universities have been selected to run the postgraduate programs. They include: Bayero University Kano, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, University of Ibadan, University of Lagos, Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, and University of Nigeria Nsukka.
“We will continue to devise means to provide our youth with the needed education to compete favourably in the modern world. Education is the sine qua non for meaningful development,” the statement added.
