The National Assembly Service Commission has officially appointed Mr. Rawlins Emmanuel Agada as the new Clerk of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, marking a significant milestone in the history of legislative service in the country.
Mr. Agada, a native of Ipari Otukpa in Ai-Oodo, Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State, is a seasoned legislative expert with decades of experience in parliamentary administration. His career has been defined by exceptional service, reform-driven leadership, and international legislative engagements.
Over the years, he has held several strategic positions within the National Assembly. Notably, he represented Nigeria at the Permanent Secretariat Desk of the Pan African Parliament in South Africa, and also contributed to Nigeria’s legislative diplomacy at the Interparliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva, Switzerland.
He once served as President of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), National Assembly Chapter, where he advocated for the welfare and professional development of legislative staff.
In May 2019, Mr. Agada was appointed Director of Information and Research at the National Assembly. In that role, he spearheaded the digitization of Chamber proceedings, restructured the accreditation process for National Assembly correspondents, and launched the National Assembly New Media initiative ushered in a more modern and transparent legislative communication structure.
On June 26, 2023, he was appointed Deputy Clerk (Administration) of the House of Representatives. His expertise later led to his redeployment to the Senate in the same capacity, before his elevation as Deputy Clerk (Legislative) of the Senate. His latest appointment as Clerk of the Senate comes as a meritorious recognition of his professional excellence and institutional contributions.
Agada’s emergence as Clerk of the Senate is a landmark achievement not only for him personally, but also for his community, which has historically faced challenges of representation in top national offices.
