The Benue Journalists’ Forum, Nigeria (BJFN), has congratulated all the National Assembly Elects from Benue state.
The newly elected legislators from Benue, who emerged winners from different political platforms, include 3 Senate elects and 11 House of Reps elects.
The Senate elects included Emmanuel Udende from Benue North East Senatorial District, Titus Zam from Benue North West Senatorial District and Abba Moro from Benue South Senatorial District.
The Federal House of Representatives elects include Terseer Ugbor from Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency, Sesoo Ikpagher from Vandeikya/Konshisha Federal Constituency, Solomon Wombo from Logo/Katsina-Ala/Ukum Federal Constituency, Sekav Iortyom from Buruku Federal Constituency and Regina Akume from Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency.
Others include Dickson Tarkighir from Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency, Asema Achado from Gwer/Gwer West Federal Constituency, Blessing Onuh from Otukpo/Ohimini Federal Constituency, Philip Agbeese from Ado/Ogbadibo/Okpokwu Federal Constituency, Ojema Ojotu from Agatu/Apa Federal Constituency and David ogewu from Obi/Oju Federal Constituency.
The group believed in the choices made by the electorates, judging by the competencies and capabilities of the elected legislators in bringing dividends of democracy to the state through excellent and impactful legislations.
The BJFN also commended candidates, who were not successful at the polls, for their good spirit of sportsmanship and patriotism.
President of the group, Chief Undu Saater Joseph, enjoined all candidates, both the newly elected legislators and those vying for political offices in the state, to understand what leadership entails.
“Leadership is about service and people should not seek to intimidate or destroy those they hope to serve in a bid to get elected.
“Don’t use force or threats of force to steal people’s votes. You may be declared the winner by INEC, but may never win the hearts of the people you want to lead.
“Let voters choose their best candidates based on their own volition and conviction.
“Don’t buy votes, don’t induce voters and, above all, don’t force voters to vote against their choice by using ethnic or religious sentiments to appeal to their sensibilities.
“As we advance towards Governorship and State House of Assembly Elections, the group urges candidates in the forthcoming governorship and state assembly elections to be mindful of their rhetorics and, as well, caution their supporters against divisive language and use of violence before, during and after the elections.
“BJFN wishes the good and peace loving people of Benue a very peaceful, credible, free, fair and acceptable elections come Saturday.
“Remember, your vote determines the future you crave; make sure you vote right to satisfy your conscience”said Chief Undu.
