The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has called for unity and collaboration among leaders of the Lake Chad region to foster development and security. He made this appeal while addressing the 5th Meeting of the Lake Chad Basin Governors Forum in Maiduguri on Monday.
General Musa commended the governors for their support of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) and the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in tackling security challenges in the region. He described the meeting as timely and pledged the military’s continued commitment to restoring lasting peace.
The CDS emphasized the need to integrate kinetic and non-kinetic approaches in countering insurgency and criminal activities, urged leaders to work in harmony to address security concerns. He also expressed a strong desire to see Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) return to their homes, reinforcing the importance of peacebuilding efforts.
The meeting was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alongside the Governors of Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa States, as well as counterparts from Niger Republic, Chad, and Cameroon.
The forum provided a platform for discussing regional security challenges and exploring ways to enhance cross-border cooperation in tackling terrorism and other threats in the Lake Chad Basin.
