The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has applauded the Lagos State Government for launching the “Produce for Lagos” programme and establishing a ₦500 billion Offtake Guarantee Fund, describing the initiative as a visionary step that bridges the crucial link between food security and national stability.
Speaking at the official unveiling of the programme on Tuesday, 23rd July 2025, General Musa praised the collaborative efforts between the Lagos State Government, private sector partners, and the Lagos Food Systems Infrastructure Company (LAFSINCO). He noted that the initiative comes at a critical time when Nigeria must adopt sustainable strategies to strengthen food systems and economic resilience.
“The ‘Produce for Lagos’ initiative represents a forward-thinking, data-driven approach to solving complex issues of food scarcity and insecurity,” the CDS stated. “It aligns perfectly with the Lagos State Agriculture and Food Systems Roadmap of 2021 and stands as a strategic model for other states to emulate.”
General Musa also commended the involvement of Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) such as LAFSINCO, Ekolog, and the Lagos Bulk Trading Company, describing their role in food production and logistics as vital to safeguarding livelihoods and strengthening national resilience.
Highlighting the broader impact of the programme, the CDS praised the Lagos State Government’s consistency in governance, economic development, and infrastructural expansion. He lauded Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for sustaining and building upon the legacy of innovation and strategic foresight laid by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
General Musa reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to support non-kinetic strategies that foster peace and national cohesion. He also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his continuous support to Nigeria’s defence and security architecture.
The “Produce for Lagos” programme is designed to ensure stable food supply to Lagos by fostering partnerships with food-producing states, streamlining logistics, and guaranteeing offtake arrangements that empower farmers while enhancing food security in the most populous state in Nigeria.
