The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has ordered the immediate deployment of more than 850 additional troops to Plateau State as part of renewed efforts to curb rising tensions and restore law and order across affected communities.
The deployment, carried out under Operation ENDURING PEACE, is aimed at reinforcing troops already on ground to strengthen ongoing operations focused on de-escalating unrest and ensuring the safety of lives and property. The newly deployed personnel were drawn from military formations in Abuja and Kaduna.
Addressing troops at the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force in Jos, the COAS charged them to remain professional, disciplined and resolute in dealing with criminal elements threatening the peace and security of law-abiding citizens. He assured the personnel of adequate logistics and combat support to enable effective execution of their mandate.
In a related development, Lieutenant General Shaibu led a high-powered security assessment team to Plateau State on Thursday, 2 April 2026, to evaluate the security situation and coordinate response strategies. Upon arrival, he was received by the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, underscoring strengthened civil-military cooperation.
During the visit, the COAS received a comprehensive operational briefing from the General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander of Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major General Folusho Oyinlola. The briefing highlighted ongoing military operations and collaborative efforts with other security agencies to contain threats, protect communities and stabilize the state.
Lieutenant General Shaibu also engaged with community leaders and residents, reassuring them of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to safeguarding all law-abiding citizens. He urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of security agencies by adhering to curfew directives and cooperating with ongoing operations and investigations while continuing their lawful activities.
Local stakeholders commended the COAS for the swift intervention. The Chairman of Jos North Local Government Area, Hon. Barr. John Kyoroh Christopher, noted that the visit by the military leadership would boost public confidence and reinforce trust in ongoing security efforts. Similarly, the Councillor representing Naraguta ‘B’ Ward, Hon. Ladi Dangyok, described the intervention as a strong reassurance to affected communities.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment, in collaboration with sister security agencies, the Plateau State Government, and relevant stakeholders, to decisively address security challenges in the state. The coordinated approach, it said, reflected a firm resolve to restore enduring peace, strengthen community resilience, and ensure Plateau State remains safe and secure for all.
