The Defence Headquarters has confirmed that sixteen Nigerian military officers under investigation for acts of indiscipline and breaches of service regulations will face formal disciplinary action. The officers were initially arrested in October 2025, following concerns over violations of military ethics and professional standards.
In a statement released today, Major General Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information, said the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) has concluded a comprehensive investigation into the matter. “The Defence Headquarters, in line with established procedures, has carefully examined all circumstances surrounding the conduct of the affected personnel. Some officers were found to have engaged in activities inconsistent with the values and ethics of the Armed Forces, including allegations of plotting to overthrow the government,” the statement read.
According to Major General Uba, officers with cases to answer will be formally arraigned before an appropriate military judicial panel to face trial under the Armed Forces Act and other relevant service regulations. He emphasized that the measures are purely disciplinary and part of ongoing mechanisms to maintain order, discipline, and operational effectiveness within the ranks.
The Defence Headquarters reaffirmed its commitment to upholding professionalism, loyalty, and respect for constitutional authority across the Armed Forces.
