The Honourable Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), on Wednesday reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening security operations in the North-West during his maiden visit to Headquarters Joint Task Force Operation FANSAN YAMMA (HQ JTF OPFY).
On arrival, General Musa was received by the Theatre Commander, Major General WB Idris, alongside the General Officer Commanding 8 Division/Commander Sector 2 OPFY, the Commander 1 Brigade, and the Commander of the Nigerian Air Force Quick Response Group (NAF QRG).
The visit coincided with the commissioning of newly procured Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) provided by the Zamfara State Government to enhance operational capacity and strengthen ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities across Zamfara State and the wider North-West theatre.
Addressing the troops, the Defence Minister praised their professionalism, resilience, and sustained offensive posture. He emphasized that the new combat platforms would boost mobility, intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, and rapid response capabilities, urged officers to remain disciplined and mission-focused in the protection of lives and property.
Major General WB Idris, Theatre Commander of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, expressed appreciation to the Federal Government and the Zamfara State Governor for their continued support, noting that the newly inducted combat assets would consolidate operational gains and accelerate efforts to restore lasting peace and stability in the region.
The visit highlighted the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s determination to decisively address threats to national security and ensure a safe environment for all citizens.
