The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced significant achievements in its ongoing military operations aimed at combating terrorism, violent extremism, and oil theft across Nigeria. In a statement issued by Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, the Armed Forces reported the neutralization of 148 terrorists, the arrest of 258 suspects, and the rescue of 291 kidnapped hostages over the past week.
According to the DHQ, troops operating in the North Central region intercepted two suspected ammunition couriers identified as Danweri and Abubakar Hamza in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State. The suspects, believed to be aiding terrorists, are now cooperating with military investigations.
The statement detailed that troops confiscated 146 assorted weapons, including 72 AK-47 rifles, 33 fabricated rifles, and 2 PKT guns, along with 2,599 rounds of various ammunition. The military also recovered vehicles, motorcycles, mobile phones, and cash totaling ₦1,838,000.
In the South-South, DHQ highlighted the destruction of 68 crude oil cooking ovens, 66 illegal refining sites, and other infrastructure used for oil theft. Troops recovered over 657,470 liters of stolen crude oil and thwarted illicit activities valued at ₦798,146,470.
Major General Buba emphasized the determination of the Armed Forces to dismantle terrorist networks and their support systems nationwide.
“The military remains resolute in destroying both the operational capabilities and the will of terrorists and violent extremists. Our troops are in a strong position and are winning the war,” he stated.
The DHQ further reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and stability across the nation while urging citizens to support the military’s efforts.
