The Dr. Cairo Ojougboh Foundation has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting education in Nigeria by backing government initiatives to enhance learning opportunities for students.
Established in honour of the late Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, a former medical doctor and member of the House of Representatives, the Foundation recently held a special programme at St. Columba’s Grammar School, Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area, themed “Your Future, Your Choice.”
During the event, the Foundation presented a cheque of ₦2,700,000 to cover examination fees for students preparing for the West African Examination Council (WAEC), National Examination Council (NECO), and Junior Secondary School (JSS) 3 examinations. In addition, cash rewards were given to the best students across the nine academic arms of the school, alongside notebooks and other learning materials to support academic development.
Mrs. Bose Ojougboh, Chairperson of the Foundation, highlighted the significance of giving back to the institution that shaped Dr. Cairo’s life and values. She encouraged students to remain focused, turn challenges into opportunities, and make intentional, positive decisions that will determine their future success.
Her two sons, Mr. Nkem Ojougboh and Mr. Orieka Ojougboh, actively participated in the programme, engaging with students and emphasizing the importance of discipline, consistency, and focus in achieving personal and academic goals.
The event also featured a strong presence of the school’s Old Boys, led by Elder Ndudi Agholor, who shared nostalgic memories of their time at St. Columba’s Grammar School and praised the school leadership for maintaining high standards.
In their remarks, the school principal, Rev. Fr. Joseph Ugboh, and Chairman of Ika South Local Government, Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior, lauded the Foundation’s initiative as a meaningful way to honour Dr. Cairo’s legacy, describing it as “commendable and impactful.” They expressed gratitude to the Ojougboh family for inspiring the students and supporting their educational journey.
The programme concluded on a hopeful note, leaving students motivated to pursue their academic goals with renewed determination.
