The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has issued a stern warning to nightclub operators and fun seekers across the country against the rising trend of organizing, hosting, or attending drug parties described the act as a grave criminal offence under Nigerian law.
The warning followed a major raid carried out by NDLEA operatives on a drug-themed party held at Proxy Night Club, located at 7 Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, on the night of Saturday, 25th October, into the early hours of Sunday, 26th October 2025.
During the operation, over 100 attendees were arrested alongside the club’s owner, Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, popularly known as Pretty Mike, and his manager, Joachin Millary.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the Agency emphasized that “any gathering organized for the purpose of consuming, distributing, or abusing illicit substances is an act of criminality.”
“These ‘drug parties’ contravene the explicit provisions of the NDLEA Act and will be treated as serious narcotic offences. In the case of the drug party at Proxy Night Club, the organisers went as far as producing and circulating flyers inviting fun seekers to come together to commit crime an act that constitutes incitement and an affront to law enforcement,” the statement read.
Babafemi disclosed that NDLEA operatives acted on credible intelligence, conducting days of surveillance, including undercover operations and pre-purchases of illicit substances from the facility.
“For four hours between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m., our operatives observed and recorded drug transactions and abuse before moving in to disrupt the brazen public display of illegality and effect arrests,” he stated.
Following the raid, the Agency seized 384.886 kilograms of Canadian ‘Loud’, a potent strain of cannabis, along with other illicit substances found in the club’s storage area.
While most attendees were profiled, counselled, and released shortly after, Pretty Mike and his manager remained in custody pending prosecution. The NDLEA also announced its intention to seek the forfeiture of the Proxy Night Club property to the Federal Government, citing its use for illegal activities.
“Owners of properties, hotels, and event centres found to be knowingly hosting such drug parties risk confiscation and forfeiture of their assets,” Babafemi warned.
He urged Nigerians particularly parents, community, and religious leaders to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities that could endanger public health and security.
“Nigeria is already grappling with a high prevalence of drug abuse among youths. These illicit drug parties worsen the situation, serving as breeding grounds for addiction and criminal recruitment,” the statement concluded.
