The Youth Wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has raised concerns over alleged plans by supporters of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Asue Ighodaro, to disrupt the ongoing election tribunal proceedings.
In a statement issued earlier today, the APC youths called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to take proactive measures to prevent any acts of violence or intimidation at the tribunal. They specifically urged the IGP to caution the PDP candidate and his supporters against actions that could jeopardize the peace in Edo State.
The warning comes after last week’s disruption at the tribunal premises, allegedly caused by thugs linked to the PDP. The APC youths emphasized their readiness to resist any further attempts to undermine the tribunal process, which they believe should be conducted without interference.
Speaking on the matter, Mr. Kelly Okungbowa, a member of the APC youth wing, said, “We are calling on the IGP to take action and ensure that the PDP candidate and his supporters respect the rule of law. Any unruly behavior will not be tolerated.”
Similarly, APC youth leaders Mr. Monday Irabor and Mr. Adams Ehi cautioned the PDP to avoid actions that could disrupt the peace and stability achieved since the swearing-in of Governor Monday Okpebholo.
“Our democracy depends on order and respect for judicial processes,” Irabor noted. “We urge the PDP to follow the path of peace and allow the court to make its decision without interference.”
The APC youth wing reaffirmed its commitment to defending the democratic rights of Edo citizens and maintaining peace in the state.
As the tribunal continues to hear evidence from both parties, the APC and PDP have been urged to uphold civility and respect for the judicial process to ensure a fair and peaceful resolution.
