The Edo State Government has joined Nigerians in celebrating Senate President Godswill Akpabio as he marks his 62nd birthday today, December 9, 2024.

In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Fred Itua, the government described Senator Akpabio as an exemplary leader whose remarkable contributions to Nigeria’s democratic process have earned him national and international recognition.

Highlighting his achievements, the statement praised Senator Akpabio’s tenure as Governor of Akwa Ibom State, where he earned the title of “jinx breaker” for his transformative leadership. His historic election to the Executive Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), breaking a 59-year hiatus for Nigeria in the body’s top hierarchy, was also celebrated.

Governor Okpebholo acknowledged Senator Akpabio’s distinguished service across executive and legislative roles at both state and federal levels. He commended the Senate President’s dedication to good governance and the rule of law, emphasized his impact as a former Minority Leader of the Senate, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, and now President of the Senate.

The Governor also lauded the Senate President’s role in fostering a productive relationship between the National Assembly and the Executive Arm of Government. This collaboration, which began in June 2023, has significantly advanced national development initiatives.

Governor Okpebholo extended his warm wishes to Senator Akpabio, expressed hope for continued leadership and contributions to the nation.

“On behalf of the government and people of Edo State, I wish Senator Akpabio good health, long life, and many more years of impactful service to Nigeria,” the statement concluded.
