Nasarawa State acting Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe has enjoined Muslims in the state, to sustain the spirit of the fasting period through supplication, hospitality and good neighbourliness.
The Nasarawa acting governor made the call in his message felicitating with Muslims, issued on Wednesday, in Lafia.
Dr. Akabe equally called on the Muslim faithful to imbibe the spirit of sharing in their daily lives, urged the people to continue to pray for the peace, security and economic prosperity of the state.
The acting governor further urged the Muslim Ummah to rededicate themselves to righteous living, tolerance and understanding, in their relationships with God and their neighbours.
“My brothers and sisters, I wish to remind us that occasion such as this calls for the Ummah to reflect on their relationships with God and fellow human beings as a yardstick for righteous living love and peaceful coexistence in the society.
“It is in view of this that I urge the people to continue to preach peace, show love, understanding, tolerance and good neighbourliness amongst ourselves and humanity at large,” he stated.
While identifying fasting during the month of Ramadan as one of the five pillars of Islam, aimed at strengthening the believers faith, through spiritual engagements such as abstinence from eating, drinking and satisfying other desires from dawn to sunset, Dr. Akabe called for prayers for the state governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, as well as other Muslim faithful, who travelled to Saudi Arabia for the lesser Hajj.
The acting governor used the opportunity of the celebration, to reiterate the call on religious leaders to continue to sensitize the public on the need to accept the AstraZeneca vaccine in order to curb the further spread of the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic, as well as to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols.
Dr. Akabe then appealed to motorists and other road users to obey traffic regulations, while also calling on the Federal Road Safety Commission and other security agencies, to continue to be vigilant during the festive period while intensifying efforts in controlling traffic to safeguard lives and property of the citizens.
