The El-Birru (Ebira) Muslim Association of Nigeria (EMAN), Abuja Branch, on Saturday, 19th July 2025, commemorated the Islamic New Year 1447 AH with a special lecture and prayer session in honour of its late National Ameer, Arc. Abdulyekeen Mamman. The event, which held at the Conference Hall of Anwaru-l-Huda Mosque, Area 1, Garki, Abuja, also featured the official launching of the EMAN Annual Hijrah Calendar and the unveiling of additional borehole projects across Kogi Central.
In his address, the Ameer of EMAN Abuja Zone, Dr. Sheikh Hussain Abdallah Rahman, expressed gratitude to Allah for the gift of life and the opportunity to witness the new Islamic year. He described the late Ameer Arc. Abdulyekeen Mamman as a dedicated and visionary leader whose sudden passing occurred just days before the Hijrah event he had championed.
“May Allah accept his efforts as acts of Ibadah and grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus,” Sheikh Hussain prayed, while also extending condolences to the family and the Ummah at large.
The Amir used the opportunity to reflect on the lessons of the Prophet Muhammad’s (SAW) Hijrah (migration) from Makkah to Madinah, noting that it was a spiritual and societal transformation from darkness into light. He cautioned against the increasing prevalence of moral decay and criminal behaviours in society, including incest, ritual killings, and cultism, urging Muslims to return to the path of Allah and renew their commitment to Islamic values.
He also encouraged Muslims to pray as prescribed by the Prophet (SAW), referred attendees to a guide by Sheikh Abubakar Yusuf El-Rufai to help correct deviations in the observance of daily Salat.
In a special message presented during the event, the organization highlighted its broader mission:
“Our activities are centred on Islamic education, rural Da’awah, medical outreach, rendering humanitarian services to the less privileged people and orphans in Ebiraland, providing water supply to Jumu’ah Masjids in the senatorial district, and propagating Islam through free medical services in settlements and farmlands where we have large Ebira Muslim populations.”
One of EMAN’s core ongoing projects is the provision of solar-powered boreholes in Jumu’ah mosques across Kogi Central. The initiative began with Okene Central Mosque, funded through Sadaqatul Jariyah by a family in memory of their late parents. The most recent success is the completion and commissioning of a solar-powered borehole at Ogaminana Central Mosque, which was officially opened on Friday, 12th July 2024 (7th Muharram 1447 AH).
EMAN announced that with continued support and donations, it aims to construct four more boreholes across Kogi Central in the new Hijrah year.

Sheikh Hussain concluded by praying for Allah’s continued protection and guidance for the Ummah, and for a Hijrah year filled with joy, peace, spiritual growth, and prosperity.
“May this New Year bring us endless joy, love and prosperity in our lives. May it be a year filled with peaceful coexistence and more connection with Allah, our Creator,” he said.
The well-attended event brought together Islamic scholars, community leaders, EMAN members and sympathizers from across Abuja and Kogi State.
