The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old resident of Abuja, Pam Joshua, for allegedly fabricating and circulating a false video claiming a terrorist attack within the nation’s capital.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, disclosed this during a press briefing held on Thursday, April 10, 2026, at the Command Headquarters in Abuja.
According to the police boss, the Command’s attention was drawn on April 9, 2026, to a viral social media video containing gunshot sounds and footage from an undisclosed location, which falsely suggested an ongoing terrorist attack in the Federal Capital Territory.
He explained that immediately after the video began circulating, the Command launched a detailed investigation, including digital forensic analysis, to verify its origin and authenticity.
“Following a thorough investigation and digital forensic analysis into the allegation and source of the video, I wish to inform you that the originator of this misleading content has been arrested,” CP Sanusi stated.
Preliminary investigations, according to the Commissioner, revealed that the suspect deliberately created the video using gunshot sound effects and visual clips sourced from TikTok, which were then edited and shared with captions designed to incite panic and fear among residents.
CP Sanusi described the act as irresponsible and dangerous, warned that the spread of misinformation capable of triggering public panic would not be tolerated by the Command.
He urged content creators and social media users to exercise restraint and verify information before sharing, stressing that false reports of insecurity could disrupt public order and undermine ongoing security efforts.
While assuring residents of the safety of the FCT, the Commissioner reiterated that security agencies remain fully committed to protecting lives and property across the territory.
He further advised residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through official emergency hotlines.
The Command confirmed that the suspect will be charged to court upon the completion of ongoing investigations.
