The Nigeria Police Force, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, has arrested two suspected armed robbers linked to a deadly attack in the Asokoro area of Abuja, where a security guard was murdered and valuables stolen.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, disclosed that the suspects were apprehended following an intelligence-led operation launched by operatives of the Command’s Scorpion Squad after a robbery incident reported in January 2026.
According to the police, armed men had broken into a residence in Asokoro, killed a security guard on duty, and carted away cash, a vehicle, and other valuables. Between February 12 and 19, 2026, operatives arrested two principal suspects identified as Amaechi Edemba, 46, and Kelechi Nwokoro, 48, in connection with the crime.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Nwokoro, a former security guard employed by the complainant, allegedly masterminded the attack after he was disengaged from service in January over negligence. Police said he conspired with Edemba and recruited four additional accomplices from neighbouring Nasarawa State to execute the robbery.
Investigators further disclosed that the suspect leveraged his prior knowledge of the premises to disable the CCTV surveillance system and cut off electricity supply before leading the armed gang into the residence. During the operation, the suspects reportedly confronted the on-duty security guard, identified as Ishaku Marcus, whom they overpowered and killed before fleeing with cash, jewellery, laptops, wrappers, and a silver Toyota Camry, among other valuables.
Police confirmed that the stolen vehicle and other exhibits have been recovered, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining gang members still at large.
Commending officers involved in the operation for their professionalism, CP Dantawaye urged residents to profile domestic staff with the police before employment as a preventive security measure. He also called on members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency lines.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the FCT.
