The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command successfully repelled a major kidnapping attempt in Guto village, an outskirt community in Bwari Area Council, but tragically lost one officer during a fierce gun battle in the early hours of Wednesday, November 20, 2025.
According to Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the incident occurred around 1:10 a.m. when the command received a distress call that approximately 30 armed men had invaded the community intending to abduct a resident and his family.
Responding immediately, the Bwari Division’s Surveillance Team, working with the Inspector-General of Police Special Intervention Squad (SIS), mobilized to the scene. Upon encountering the police, the attackers opened fire, prompting a heated gun duel. The officers responded with what the command described as “superior firepower,” ultimately saving the targeted family.
During the firefight, two assailants were neutralized, while the rest fled into the surrounding bushes and hills. Tragically, one police officer sustained a fatal gunshot wound. He was rushed to Bwari General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The officer’s identity has not yet been released, pending notification of family members.
“The Command deeply regrets this loss. The officer paid the supreme price in the line of duty while protecting citizens from criminal elements,” SP Adeh said.
In the aftermath, FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, has deployed additional personnel to Guto village and surrounding communities to bolster security. He also ordered a detailed investigation to ensure the remaining perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice.
The Command confirmed that normalcy has since been restored in the area.
