The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has recovered three stolen vehicles and apprehended eight suspects in connection with a string of auto thefts, including a husband-and-wife duo behind a sophisticated car theft operation.
On April 19, 2025, following the report of a stolen gold Toyota Corolla (registration number: ABC 570 FJ) from the Federal Secretariat, operatives of the Command’s Scorpion Squad apprehended one Yusuf Yunusa. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of his wife, Blessing Yusuf, on April 25 in Kwali Area Council. She confessed to purchasing Toyota master keys from an online marketplace, which her husband used to steal vehicles while she created distractions during the operations.
In a separate incident on April 28, 2025, police operatives responded to a tip-off from a car buyer in Life Camp about a suspicious black Mercedes-Benz 4MATIC E-400 (registration number: AAA 07 KA). Investigations revealed the vehicle had been stolen from Lekki, Lagos. Five suspects—Idris Suleiman, Isiyaku Habibu, Ganiyu Sadiq, Idowu Akintunde, and Bello Muyideen were arrested. They admitted to stealing the car from their employer.
Additionally, police operatives from Mabushi Division, acting on credible intelligence, tracked one George Idung, who was reported missing alongside an unregistered Toyota Hilux Adventure belonging to his employer, Mr. Chinwenze Chinaza. The suspect was arrested in Eket LGA, Akwa Ibom State, while attempting to sell off the vehicle. The vehicle was recovered.
All suspects are in custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
Meanwhile,FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao S. Adewale,has urged residents to install vehicle tracking devices, avoid parking in isolated areas, and verify ownership before purchasing used vehicles.
