The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Miller G. Dantawaye, psc, has ordered the immediate redeployment of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Ushafa Division following a viral video showing the officer assaulting a young man.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, drew widespread public condemnation after footage of the DPO slapping a civilian circulated on X (formerly Twitter).
In a statement issued by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the Commissioner described the officer’s behaviour as “unprofessional, uncivil, and inconsistent with the ethics of the Nigeria Police Force.” He emphasised that such conduct would not be tolerated under his leadership.
“Discipline, civility, and professionalism are non-negotiable values for every police officer. Any act that undermines public trust or the dignity of the Force will attract severe consequences,” CP Dantawaye said.
He confirmed that the erring officer has been recalled to the State Headquarters while an internal investigation is underway. The Commissioner also reminded all Divisional Police Officers and their subordinates to maintain professionalism and respect for human rights in their dealings with members of the public.
The Police Chief appealed to residents to remain cooperative and law-abiding, noting that mutual respect between the public and law enforcement personnel remains key to effective community policing.
