The Federal Government has commenced a five-week Artificial Intelligence (AI) Pedagogy training for 6,000 senior secondary school teachers across the country.
The program was officially launched in Abuja on Tuesday, with the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, urging participants to leverage AI in transforming teaching and learning. Represented by Hajia Binta Abdulkadir, Director of the Senior Secondary Education Department, the minister emphasized that AI is now a crucial tool for educational advancement.
Dr. Iyela Ajayi, Executive Secretary of the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC), called on state governments and private sector stakeholders to support the initiative by investing in infrastructure and teacher development. He also assured that newly developed minimum standards for secondary education would be fully implemented within nine months.
Dr. Oluwakemi Olurinola, Lead Facilitator from Olabisi Onabanjo University, highlighted that the training aims to bridge the digital gap in education, equipping teachers with AI-driven tools for personalized and effective teaching.
The program, supported by Google Research, Data Science Nigeria, and Olabisi Onabanjo University, has drawn participation from commissioners of education across all 36 states and the FCT.
This initiative aligned with the government’s broader strategy to integrate modern technology into Nigeria’s education system, ensuring teachers and students are not left behind in the evolving digital landscape.
