The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Rt Hon Oyetunde Ojo, has assured that more roads will be constructed across FHA estates nationwide, subject to available funding.
Ojo gave the assurance on Tuesday while commissioning three newly constructed road projects, totaling 1.2 kilometers, at the Authority’s Apo-Guzape Estate in Abuja.
The commissioned roads included 1st Avenue (645m), 13th Crescent (540m), and E Close, which collectively make up the 1.2km stretch.
Speaking at the ceremony, the FHA boss emphasized that road infrastructure remains vital in large settlements such as FHA estates, both for socio-economic activities and enhanced security. He noted that the Apo-Guzape road project was particularly challenging due to the hilly and rocky terrain that required frequent blasting of rocks.
“The completion of these roads addresses not only mobility but also security concerns, as the previously abandoned areas had become hideouts for criminals,” Ojo said.
He commended the contractors for executing a quality and timely job, while also lauding the synergy among staff, management, and contractors in ensuring delivery.
Reaffirming FHA’s commitment to housing provision, staff welfare, and infrastructure development, Ojo stressed the importance of healthy competition in the sector, noting that government agencies should perform even better than private operators when provided with adequate funding and an enabling environment.
He pledged to maintain high standards and quality in all FHA projects while ensuring timely delivery.
Despite a heavy downpour, Ojo, alongside directors and management staff of FHA, commissioned the roads to the delight of residents.
