The fight against human trafficking in Nigeria received a major boost as the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, pledged to support the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in its mission to protect Nigerians from exploitation.
Senator Tinubu made the commitment while receiving the management of NAPTIP, led by its Director General, Binta Adamu Bello, during a courtesy visit to the State House, Abuja.
Commending NAPTIP for its achievements in advocacy, rescue, and prosecution of offenders, the First Lady emphasized the importance of public enlightenment and victim support in preventing human trafficking and gender-based violence. She assured the agency of her support in scaling up awareness campaigns, improving shelter facilities, and strengthening its operations across the country.
Earlier in her speech, the Director General of NAPTIP, Binta Adamu Bello, highlighted the prevalence of human trafficking in Nigeria and the agency’s successes under her leadership. She outlined key achievements, including increased prosecution of offenders, heightened advocacy, and expanded rescue efforts. She also sought the First Lady’s support in sustaining and enhancing these efforts.
With this commitment from the First Lady, NAPTIP is set to gain further institutional backing, which is expected to enhance its fight against human trafficking and other forms of exploitation nationwide.
