The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has appointed Deputy Corps Commander Ohaeri Osondu Joseph as its new Corps Public Education Officer (CPEO) in a strategic move aimed at strengthening public communication and advancing road safety awareness across Nigeria.
The appointment, which form part of a broader communication and public engagement restructuring within the Corps, underscores its renewed commitment to intensifying nationwide advocacy, reshaping public perception, and promoting safer road use among motorists and other road users.
A seasoned communications strategist and operations expert with over two decades of service, Osondu expected to bring extensive experience in media relations, field operations, policy coordination, and stakeholder engagement. He previously served for 15 years as Media Relations Officer at the FRSC National Headquarters in Abuja, where he played a key role in enhancing the Corps’ public image and communicating critical national safety issues.
His operational experience included leadership roles as Unit Head of Operations in Keffi and Bida, and later as Assistant Corps Commander (Operations) in Kaduna Sector Command. He also served as Head of Special Duties and External Relations, where he facilitated strategic partnerships and fostered multi-sector collaboration.
Osondu is a Fellow of both the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and the Institute of Corporate Administration. He is also an accomplished author, having written “The Potency of Public Enlightenment Campaigns on Road Crash Reduction in Nigeria,” alongside other publications that contribute to discourse on road safety management.
Beyond his professional duties within the FRSC, he has held leadership roles in other institutions, including serving as Public Relations Officer of the Methodist Archdiocese of Abuja and Chairman of the Publicity/Media Committee for the 170th anniversary of Methodism in Nigeria.
Prior to his new appointment, he served as Deputy Corps Commander overseeing Marshal Inspectors, Administration, and Human Resources at the FRSC National Headquarters, where he contributed to institutional reforms and personnel development.
His career has been marked by several accolades, including the Best Unit Commander Award (2022), multiple leadership and innovation recognitions, and international honours as a Peace Ambassador and Chaplain.
With his appointment, the FRSC is expected to intensify its public enlightenment campaigns, leveraging his expertise to enhance stakeholder engagement, strengthen public cooperation, and drive behavioural change towards reducing road traffic crashes across the country.
