The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, mni, has declared 2026 as a year of renewed commitment, professionalism and improved service delivery across the organisation.
Speaking through the Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, mni, FISPON, anipr, the Corps Marshal made the declaration while addressing officers and marshals during the first parade of the year, where he reaffirmed that discipline, unity, professionalism and dedication to service remain the foundation and identity of the Corps.
The Corps Marshal stressed that every officer on patrol represents the image of FRSC and operates under constant public scrutiny, warning that any decline in discipline, civility or professionalism would no longer be tolerated. He described patrol teams as frontline ambassadors and urged them to remain courteous and guided by the core values of transparency, fairness, timeliness and service orientation.
Mohammed also disclosed that the 2026 Corporate Strategic Goals of the Corps had been approved and released, directing all formations nationwide to align their activities with the goals through clear initiatives, actionable plans and performance-driven job binders.
Addressing security challenges, he called on personnel to remain vigilant and security conscious, both on and off duty, in view of prevailing threats such as kidnapping, robbery and banditry. He emphasised that prevention remains more effective than reaction in ensuring safety.
On staff welfare, the Corps Marshal encouraged officers to prioritise their health by regularly checking their health status and subscribing to available health plans, noting that good health is critical to effective service delivery.
He outlined management’s key focus areas for 2026 to include smarter operations, faster response to crash scenes and emergencies, improved supervision and public engagement, zero tolerance for corruption and misconduct, enhanced welfare support, and protection for disciplined and committed personnel.
Mohammed further announced sustained welfare interventions, including continuous capacity building, merit-based promotions, increased opportunities for further studies, timely promotions, renovation of field command accommodations, prompt payment of salaries and allowances, improved deployment practices, enhanced medical care access, strengthened cooperative schemes, and faster settlement of insurance claims.
The Corps Marshal warned against misconduct such as extortion, abuse of authority and incivility to the motoring public, describing such acts as capable of tarnishing the image of the Corps. He urged Commanding Officers to mentor subordinates, supervise effectively and lead by example.
He concluded by encouraging officers and marshals to remain hopeful, focused and innovative, expressed confidence that 2026 would be a landmark year for the Federal Road Safety Corps.
