The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has visited victims of the recent attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, currently receiving treatment at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), where he announced a donation of N15 million to support their care.
Yilwatda, who was accompanied by his wife, Dr. Martina Yilwatda, described the attack as “barbaric, painful and unacceptable,” stressed that it represents a direct assault on humanity and must not be allowed to recur.
The APC chairman said the visit was both a show of compassion and a reaffirmation of the Federal Government’s commitment under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to protect lives and property across the country, particularly in Plateau State, which has witnessed recurring violence.
Speaking during the visit, Yilwatda urged stakeholders to move beyond routine condemnation and adopt deliberate, collective measures to end the cycle of killings, emphasizing that no society can progress under persistent fear and insecurity.
“The pain of the victims and their families is one that must be shared by all people of conscience,” he said, adding that the government remains resolute in restoring peace and strengthening security operations nationwide.
He assured victims and their families that authorities are working to ensure justice and prevent further attacks, noting that every Nigerian life must be valued and protected against violence and criminality.
As part of immediate support efforts, Yilwatda announced a donation of N15 million to assist victims of the Angwan Rukuba attack and other vulnerable patients at JUTH, explained that the funds are intended to ease medical and financial burdens.
He also commiserated with families of those who lost their lives, offered prayers for the deceased and strength for their loved ones.
The APC chairman further paid a condolence visit to the Ujah Anaguta, the paramount ruler of Jos North, over the attack on Angwan Rukuba residents.
Yilwatda commended the management and staff of JUTH for their prompt response and professionalism in treating victims under challenging conditions.
He called on political, traditional and religious leaders, as well as civil society groups and youths, to unite against violence and reject divisive tendencies threatening peace in Plateau State.
According to him, the incident should serve as a wake-up call for intensified security efforts, improved intelligence gathering and stronger community engagement to prevent future occurrences.
Yilwatda maintained that Plateau’s diversity and strategic importance must not be undermined by repeated violence, assuring that the APC and relevant authorities are committed to restoring lasting peace and stability in the state.
