The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has ordered the nationwide deployment of personnel and operational logistics ahead of the 2026 Eid-El-Fitri celebrations to ensure safer travel and reduce road traffic crashes across Nigeria.
The directive was issued by the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, who announced that the special patrol operations will run from March 17 to March 22, 2026, covering major highways and critical road corridors nationwide.
According to the Corps Marshal, the initiative forms part of the Corps’ statutory responsibility to guarantee safer road use and manage the anticipated surge in vehicular movement associated with the Eid-El-Fitri festivities, when many Muslim faithful travel to celebrate with family and loved ones.
Mohammed said the operation would feature increased patrol visibility, strategic deployment of rescue teams, and intensified public enlightenment campaigns aimed at guiding motorists and other road users during the festive period.
He explained that the FRSC would maintain 24-hour patrol operations across key highways, supported by standby rescue teams, operational ambulances, tow trucks, patrol vehicles and motorbikes to ensure prompt emergency response.
The Corps Marshal noted that the special patrol would also focus on the immediate removal of road obstructions and close monitoring of traffic situations to minimise delays and ensure smoother traffic flow.
As part of enforcement measures, FRSC personnel will intensify monitoring of major traffic violations including speeding, dangerous overtaking, tyre violations, lane indiscipline, road obstruction, overloading, mix-loading of passengers and goods, seat-belt violations and the use of mechanically deficient vehicles.
Commanding officers across sector commands have also been directed to deploy operational equipment such as patrol vehicles, advanced life-support ambulances, tow trucks, radar guns, breathalysers, traffic cones, patrol bikes and communication gadgets. Special Marshals are expected to participate actively in traffic control operations throughout the period.
The FRSC boss added that the Corps would strengthen collaboration with other security and emergency response agencies including the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Fire Service and the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency to ensure quick response to emergencies and maintain order on the highways.
He further disclosed that the Corps will utilise its National Traffic Radio 107.1FM to provide real-time traffic updates, travel advisories and alternative route guidance to motorists throughout the operation.
Members of the public were also encouraged to report crashes, traffic obstructions or emergencies through the FRSC emergency toll-free number 122 or 0700-CALL-FRSC.
While wishing Muslim faithful a peaceful Eid-El-Fitri celebration, Mohammed urged motorists to cooperate with law enforcement personnel by obeying traffic rules, avoiding speeding and ensuring their vehicles are roadworthy.
He reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to creating a safer motoring environment for all road users across the country.
