The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed a fatal road traffic crash involving a Lexus Jeep conveying world-renowned boxer, Anthony Joshua, and a stationary truck along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State, which claimed two lives on Monday, 29 December 2025.
According to the Ogun Sector Command of the FRSC, the crash occurred around 12:00 noon near the Sinoma area, close to Sagamu. FRSC operatives reportedly arrived at the scene within three minutes of receiving the distress call, enabling prompt rescue operations, traffic control and prevention of secondary crashes.
The incident involved two vehicles: a black Lexus Jeep with registration number KRD 850 HN (private) and a stationary red Sinotruck with an unknown registration number. Five adult males were involved in the crash. Two victims were confirmed dead, one sustained injuries, while two others escaped unhurt. Anthony Joshua was rescued alive and sustained minor injuries.
The injured victim was immediately evacuated for medical treatment, while the remains of the deceased were deposited at Livewell Morgue, Ajaka, Sagamu. The Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division (MTD) was notified to conduct further investigation and complete necessary documentation.
Preliminary findings by the FRSC indicate that the Lexus Jeep was suspected to be travelling above the legally prescribed speed limit and lost control during an overtaking manoeuvre before crashing into the stationary truck, which was properly parked by the roadside. Excessive speed and wrongful overtaking were identified as the primary causes of the crash.
Reacting to the incident, the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished Anthony Joshua and the other injured victim a speedy recovery.
The FRSC reiterated its warning to motorists to avoid dangerous overtaking, excessive speed and disregard for traffic regulations, especially on high-speed corridors such as the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. Road users were urged to exercise patience, maintain lane discipline and prioritise safety over haste, particularly during the festive travel period.
The Corps reaffirmed its commitment to safer roads through prompt emergency response, enforcement and sustained public education aimed at reducing road traffic crashes and fatalities nationwide.
