The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has once again demonstrated its rapid emergency response capability following a serious multiple-vehicle crash along the busy AYA–Nyanya expressway in Abuja.
The incident, which occurred on Monday evening at about 4:48 p.m. near the Kugbo Furniture Market axis, involved six vehicles, including two tippers, a commercial bus, and several private cars.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Felicia Kalu, FRSC operatives from the Zebra 12 Unit arrived at the scene within four minutes of receiving the distress call and immediately commenced rescue operations.
In a coordinated effort, rescue officials successfully extricated a victim trapped inside one of the severely damaged tippers. The victim was administered first aid at the scene before being evacuated to the National Hospital, Abuja, for further medical attention.
A total of 39 persons were involved in the crash, with two male victims sustaining varying degrees of injuries, ranging from minor bruises to fractures. One of the injured received immediate on-the-spot treatment from FRSC personnel.
The Unit Commander led the rescue team in managing the situation, ensuring swift evacuation of victims and effective traffic control to prevent further incidents. Heavy-duty recovery equipment was deployed to clear the wreckage and remove obstructions from the road.
FRSC officials also implemented traffic management measures that helped avert a major gridlock and restored the free flow of traffic along the ever-busy corridor.
Following the operation, vehicles involved in the crash were handed over to the Karu Police Division for further investigation.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to safeguarding lives through prompt rescue interventions and efficient traffic management.
He also advised motorists, especially drivers of heavy-duty vehicles, to adhere strictly to speed limits, maintain lane discipline, and remain vigilant to reduce the risk of road crashes.
The FRSC reiterated its dedication to ensuring safer roads across the country through proactive enforcement and emergency response services.
