The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has appealed to motorists nationwide to prioritize road safety and drive responsibly as Nigerians usher in the New Year.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, warned that the festive period often comes with increased vehicular movement, fatigue-induced driving, and reckless road use, all of which heighten the risk of traffic crashes. He emphasised that speed violations, drunk driving, dangerous overtaking, and wilful disregard for traffic regulations must be avoided.
In a statement signed by Olusegun Ogungbemide, Assistant Corps Marshal and Corps Public Education Officer, motorists were urged to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, obey speed limits, avoid driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and remain fully attentive on the road. Travellers were also advised to plan their journeys, take adequate rest, and cooperate with FRSC personnel deployed nationwide.
Reassuring Nigerians of the Corps’ preparedness, the Corps Marshal stated that FRSC personnel remain strategically stationed on major highways and critical corridors to manage traffic, respond promptly to emergencies, and enforce compliance with road safety regulations.
“Road safety is a shared responsibility,” the Corps Marshal added, appealing to all road users to make safety-conscious decisions that protect lives and property. He wished all Nigerians a peaceful, productive, and safe New Year.
