The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander Sector 2 Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Bemgba Paul Koughna, has visited Tidibale Community in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State, reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to strengthening security in the area.
The visit formed part of the GOC’s first official engagements and followed the return of residents who had earlier fled the community due to threats from bandits.
Addressing community members, Major General Koughna said the visit was aimed at assessing the security situation and reassuring residents of the Nigerian Army’s unwavering dedication to protecting lives and property. He assured the people that troops have been deployed to Tidibale to maintain a strong security presence and respond swiftly to any threats.
The GOC stressed that the Army would not allow any part of the community to fall under the control of bandits, adding that the restoration of peace would enable residents to resume normal activities, particularly farming, without fear.
He urged members of the community to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to security agencies, noting that effective collaboration between the military and local communities is critical to sustaining peace and security.
Speaking on behalf of the community, the Sarkin Arewa of Tidibale, Alhaji Ibrahim, expressed appreciation to the GOC for the visit, described it as timely and reassuring. He said the presence of the Army had renewed hope among residents and restored confidence in their safety.
Earlier, Major General Koughna received a detailed operational briefing from the Commanding Officer of 26 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Nasiru Mustapha, at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Isa, where he was briefed on the prevailing security situation and ongoing operations in the area.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its resolve to continue working closely with local communities and other stakeholders to ensure lasting peace and stability across the North West region.
