The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of seven journalists in a road accident that occurred on Monday, December 29, 2025, in Gombe State.
In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by its Founder and Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, the Islamic human rights organisation commiserated with the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) following the loss of five staff members of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and two other individuals in the crash. Four other victims were reported to have sustained serious injuries.
MURIC described the incident as painful and heartbreaking, noting that the tragedy has left families bereaved and the journalism community in deep mourning, particularly members of the NUJ and NTA in Gombe State and at the national level.
The organisation offered prayers for the repose of the souls of the deceased and for divine comfort for their families, colleagues, and loved ones. It also prayed for the speedy recovery of those who survived the accident with injuries.
MURIC further urged authorities to strengthen road safety measures across the country to prevent similar tragedies, stressing that the loss of journalists in the line of duty or through avoidable accidents is a loss to the entire nation.
The Gombe accident has continued to attract condolences from individuals and organisations across Nigeria, highlighting growing concerns over road safety and the welfare of media professionals.
